[/i], he tilted his head back even further and closed his eyes. He wanted her to come back again, but he didn’t want to say it. He didn’t want to seem like he needed her here. He didn’t. Most definitely not. He’d be fine sleeping on his own. He’d just run before he went to bed. That would make him tired. He’d be able to sleep without her…right?

When Victoria started speaking again, he gave a hum for an answer. He wouldn’t mind if she took his clothes. For some reason he liked seeing her in them. But he wouldn’t say that. She might take that the wrong way and think that he actually cares for her. Which of course he didn’t. He felt her get up from the bed and at that he finally opened his eyes and turned to look at her. He watched as she started getting her clothes together, but the silence of the room was broken only a few moments later when a knock sounded at the door. Chase’s eyes widened and he looked from the door to Victoria. It wasn’t like he was going to ask her to hide. He just assumed that whoever was there would continue on if they didn’t get an answer so Chase stayed silent. But as he heard the door unlock and watched the handle start turning he let out a breath. ”Well shit.” He muttered under his breath.

”Chase. Where the hell have you been? You were supposed-“ Chase’s eyes locked with his brothers before his brothers eyes flicked down to where Tori was still next to her bag. Chase opened his mouth to speak when Peeta just blinked a couple times and looked between the two before giving a small smile. ”Something you want to tell me, Chase?” Chase looked at his brother with a slight glare, asking him with his eyes to shut up.

That Night

That day had passed extremely slowly for Chase. After hearing the whole entire story about why he had disappeared and after asking if Chase was okay over a 1,000 times at least, to which Chase replied ”Yes. Peeta, I am fine. Now get the fuck out of my room and leave me alone.” Peeta had left after that. Could you really blame Chase for snapping at his brother though? Victoria had raced out of the room like a bat out of hell and it was still way too early to be pestered by his twin. Of course once Peeta left the room Chase did start feeling a little bad. Peeta did have Chase’s best interest at heart in wanting to make sure he was okay. Chase had stayed in his room for a bit longer before finally venturing out for something to eat. He was actually starving and ate more than he had in awhile.

After that, he had gone back in his room and changed into some clothes that he could run in before heading to the forests edge and running along it. He’d usually run in it, but his shifts were a little more wary of the forest now and would take some real persuading to go back there. Or time, yes, perhaps they just needed some time. A couple hours later, he finally arrived back to his dorm. He knew he needed a shower, not that he stunk he was just sweaty, but a shower would wake him up a bit. It took a bit of thinking but he decided to just let the water get to that nice warm temperature that usually relaxed people and just risk it. He couldn’t go to bed sweaty like this.

It didn’t work. As soon as he got out of the shower he was as awake as he was before he started running. He sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. The whole day had Chase thinking about Victoria and what their relationship was exactly. He knew they were something. Friends? Perhaps. Acquaintances? More likely. But there was a part of him that wanted more, and he was trying so hard to just ignore that instinct. He didn’t need her. But then why, when he lay in his bed a few hours later, did it feel weird? He wanted to get her back here. But he couldn’t do that. He couldn’t show that type of weakness.

He groaned and grabbed his TV before turning it to Netflix and letting Dexter start playing. He could just feel it in him that he wasn’t going to sleep. Although his body was tired, his mind was wide-awake. An episode or two later he heard a knock at his door. He furrowed his eyebrows and glanced at the time. It was really late. Who in their right mind would come to him this late at night? As he got up to open the door, he looked down and realized that after his shower he had just slipped on the same sweatpants from last night. He shook his head, not even remembering doing that before he opened the door. And he was extremely surprised by who was standing there. ”Victoria?”

He took notice of the fact that she was once again wearing his clothes and for a moment he let that go to his head as he raised an eyebrow. Without saying anything else, he didn’t want anyone to peer in the hall and see them standing there, he stepped to the side to let her come in. He started walking back to his bed and fell onto it as he leaned against the headboard once again. ”Lock the door behind you.” With that he turned back to watch Dexter as the guy started to talk to some guy that was saran wrapped to a table.

[/color] Chase looked at his brother and blinked a few times. ”She fell asleep here while we were working on a project for class?” Even if he didn’t sound so unsure of that, Peeta would be able to tell. He was always able to tell when his twin was lying.

He raised an eyebrow before looking around. ”There’s no papers around and she was wearing your clothes. Stop lying to me. You know you can’t. What was that really all about?” He looked back at his twin before going over and sitting on his brother’s bed, leaning against the footboard to look at his brother with a curious expression. Chase looked everywhere but at his twin. If people saw the way he was around his brother they would most likely be surprised. He was almost a completely different person in front of Peeta. Chase finally looked to Peeta and under his brother’s unwavering gaze he finally sighed and caved. He told him everything. From walking in the forest to the vampire, to losing control, to saving Victoria, to not being able to sleep, to seeing Victoria and growing the idea. Peeta stayed silent through the whole thing. It was when his brother finished talking that Peeta stayed silent for a few moments before speaking.

”I’m happy for you.” Chase’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, while Peeta only laughed at him. ”You’ll figure it out eventually. Might take awhile though.” Chase looked at his brother before shaking his head. ”You’re mad. That’s totally not true.” Peeta stood up and started walking towards the door. ”I give it a week or two. Maybe a bit longer. Just don’t hurt her Chase.” Peeta looked at his twin who stared at Peeta as if the vampire was insane. He shook his head. ”You’re wrong.” Peeta only grinned before opening the door and walking out. Before he closed the door he gave a small laugh and grinned back at Chase. ”We’ll see.” Then he closed the door and left Chase to think and ignore the voice in his head telling him that his brother was right.

Chase watched carefully as Victoria walked in and locked the door. Sure his brother had just barged in without a real warning, but after this morning he figured that it wouldn’t happen again. Once the door had been locked, Chase’s eyes turned back to the TV. He gave a slight shrug and nodded towards the TV. ”I was just watching this. No big deal.” He didn’t think it was necessary to tell her that he hadn’t been able to sleep. When she spoke again, this time about Dexter, Chase had to literally stop himself from smiling. He raised an eyebrow and gave a half smirk before looking at her. ”Just got hooked on it recently. I’m only on season two.” When he noticed that she hadn’t moved from her spot next to the door he rolled his eyes and nodded to the spot next to him. ”You can sit. It’s not like I’m going to bite.” He gave another smirk before turning back to the TV just as Dexter went to work on the guy.

It was silent for a while, just the TV playing and Chase could feel a sort of awkwardness in the air which he assumed was because of what his brother had said earlier. ”That was my twin Peeta. He’s a vampire.” He blinked a couple times, not really knowing why he felt the need to explain that to her.

[/b][/color] When she finally did join him on his bed, his eyes flicked over to her once she got comfortable. She looked a little tense and for a moment Chase wondered why. It wasn’t like he had really done anything since that night in the forest to make her think he hated her. ’But you are supposed to hate her. Remember you hate everyone.’ He scoffed as his eyes flicked back to the screen at his thoughts. His eyebrows furrowed as the scene cut to Dexter and his sister sitting at a table and talking.

Of course Victoria was going to question him about Peeta. Those who never saw them together probably just assumed that Chase was Peeta or Peeta was Chase. No one probably put two and two together unless they saw the brothers together. That would change though as Chase was able to age and Peeta wasn’t. The thought made Chase shift uncomfortably. He didn’t like the thought of him dying while his brother lived. They were actually really close, considering how different the two were. Chase went to answer Victoria’s question when she was already apologizing about it. He gave a shrug. But then she asked another question and Chase actually…smiled. He gave a short chuckle before nodding. ”Thick as thieves. Odd considering how different we are.” He paused a moment and a thoughtful look came on his face. ”We’re like yin and yang really. Opposites with a little bit of each other in us and we just fit. If you actually talked to him you’d easily realize what I mean.”

His smile slipped away though before he looked from the TV to the bed. Absentmindedly he started picking at the blanket lying under his legs. He gave a sigh before speaking again. ”The shifter gene skipped him somehow.” Of course he knew how. His dad was a shifted and his mom was a human, but he wasn’t sure if he could exactly trust Victoria with that information yet. ”Unfortunately though, last year he became a vampire.” He stopped talking there and his eyebrows furrowed as his hands stopped playing with the blanket and he looked back up to the TV. The rest of that story wasn’t for someone who didn’t know his brother. It wasn’t his story to tell. It was Peeta’s and Chase wouldn’t tell it to someone he wasn’t sure Peeta might not be okay with them knowing.
