PERSONAL INFORMATION
NICKNAME:: Merlin
AGE:: Twenty-Three
GENDER:: Male
OCCUPATION:: Book Shop Keeper
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION::
Caspian is played by: Daniel Radcliffe
Caspian never really had a sense of style until he grew human legs. Caspian finds himself gravating towards the more educated look. Simple jeans with a button down shirt, and a vest. If he isn't wearing that, he is wearing a more laid back look. Jeans, and a simple T-shirt would be enough for him. Caspian has gorgeous blue eyes that contrast with his black hair, which always looks slightly rumbled. He also wears glasses to alter his appearance in order to avoid detection from the scientists. Caspian stands at about 5'7, and weighs roughly 180 pounds. He looks like he isn't in the best shape, or strong, but that is quite the opposite. Caspian is extremely strong, and fast. Since Caspian is a merman, he has a tail when in water.
SPECIES INFORMATION
MERMAN
The Species:
Merfolk, of course, are half human and half fish. They have the tail end of a fish, with a horizontal tail similar in style to a dolphin verses a vertical one like a shark. At the waist their tail turns from scale to skin and moves up to give us the upper body of a human. They generally refer to humans as "land-people," and look at them in disdain, most often considering themselves superior. Not all, but most.
When they come up out of the water, their tails disappear once dry, and are replaced by human legs. The first time, they are naked, and must find clothes to wear. It only takes a drop of water to revert the change, and if they get splashed they have around ten seconds before the change happens.
Mermaids live underwater, they can't breath underwater, but they can hold their breath for hours at a time, sometimes an entire day. They can swim extremely fast, sometimes upwards of sixty miles an hour, and can go up to twelve hours without needing to stop when necessary.
Because they are used to the water, their skin dries out much faster than a human's. In order to successfully live life on land they have to soak in the tub every day, or have a lot of moisturizing lotion on hand or their will start to dry out and flake. This isn't necessarily harmful, but it is irritating and itchy.
His Abilities:
Like most Merfolk, Caspian has the ability to manipulate water in any way you can think of. He can boil it, freeze it, change it's shape, move it around, and make it evaporate. Caspian can also turn water from it's liquid form to a solid like form. It isn't exactly ice, but more like a glass. It takes concentration on his part, but he can hold it for quite a while without getting exhausted. Caspian is also able to generate water without being near a water source. He cannot do this is large amounts or for very long. This also takes large amounts of concentration for him, and he is extremely exhausted when he is done.
Along with water manipulation, Caspian also is one of many Mermen who can manipulate the weather. Caspian can sense what the weather will be like, which comes in handy when sensing rain since he and Meridia can't go out in the rain. Caspian doesn't have full control over this ability yet since it starts surfacing around the age of 20. As of right now, Caspian can only conjure rain storms, which ties in with his ability to generate water. Along with his storms, he can generate hail, and lightening. He can also create sleet, fog, a light snow, and temperature changes. Eventually he will be able to create various natural phenomenons. A downside to his ability is that it acts up when he is feeling an extreme emotion. If he were pissed, the weather around his area will begin changing. This also goes for inside, not just outside. If he were to become sad, dark clouds would start rolling in. Caspian manages his emotions fairly well, but he isn't perfect. When Caspian fully develops this ability he will be able to manipulate Air, Water, Electricity, and Thermal, but this will be in the very far future for him.

GENERAL::
Before coming to land, Caspian was a fun-loving kind of guy. He was never terribly serious about anything, and was sure to make a joke about everything. Everyone enjoyed his company for the most part. There were times were he was serious, and made sure he out his game face on. Caspian took his duty of protecting his people very seriously, so you can imagine how he felt when they were discovered. Since leaving the Australian Reef, Caspian has not been himself. He has been more moody, which is not okay when it comes to his abilities since they are linked to his emotions. He has become secluded, and isolated himself from his sister. He has managed to keep his emotions in check since arriving on land, but that doesn't make his attitude any better. Luckily, Caspian manages to turn off his disgust for Land Walkers when he emerges from his private room, and kind of goes back to his normal self. Caspian has discovered he does have a love for somethings on land that are not accessible in the ocean such as books and television. When Caspian isn't sulking about being stuck on land, he can come across as bossy ( towards his sister, mainly ), and intelligent. Unfortunately, he does get angry easily, especially since being on land, which he tries to keep it under control. Caspian is also very protective of his sister, and it hasn't changed since arriving on land. She may be the reason he is on land, but he won't stop protecting her. He is probably overprotective, but he doesn't care.

HISTORY::
Caspian and Meridia grew up just like any other pair of siblings...except underwater. Meridia was the youngest by six years, but she idolized her older brother like any younger sibling does. Caspian tolerated her for the most part, and would even let her tag along when he went off to see his friends...most of the time. As they grew they became closer, and often confided in each other. She shared stories and secrets. Of course they didn't get along one hundred percent of the time. Occasionally they would grow tired of each other and need some space.
It was times such as these when Meridia would let her curiosity get the better of her, and make her way words the mainland. This, of course, was strictly forbidden and she had to be careful not to be caught...both by two-leggers AND other merfolk. These adventures to the mainland was one of the few stories she never told her brother. She knew he wouldn't approve, and she didn't want him disappointed in her, or worse - telling the elders in the pod and having them put a stop to it. No, she certainly couldn't have that. So she kept these adventures to herself, and ONLY went when she knew Caspian wouldn't follow her, such as after a fight, or if they just needed time apart.
The first of these trips was one she would never forget. She made her way into the harbor, where the humans kept all of their boats. She hid under the docks for hours, just watching people come and go. Occasionally she went towards the beach, and just stayed out where very few humans ventured. It wasn't uncommon to see a human out swimming out there, so it wasn't odd seeing a human (at least from the beach she looked like one) out there. She just made sure to sink quite a ways before swimming off so that no one saw her tail.
On one of these trips to the harbor, she was nearly discovered. A boat had a fish finder, and saw her as a huge fish. They followed her for ever and it took her almost all day to shake them. When she got back home she was exhausted. Caspian of course had asked what happened to leave her so tired, but she shrugged and told him she'd been fleeing a shark. Sharks were common in their area, and obviously dangerous, so he accepted that and let it go, although he was a little more protective of her for the next few days.
Things went on line this for a couple years (her first trip out occurring at the age of ten), and when she was thirteen something happened that changed she was out swimming toward the beach, when she saw a young human, about her age, swimming out in the deep. She seemed to be struggling to get back to shore, and Meridia knew what she had to do.
It was against all the laws of her society, helping a human, but she couldn't let the girl die. She swam up to the girl and helped her to shore, albeit a rocky piece that wasn't frequented by humans. She dragged the girl who was only partly conscious onto the sandy part of the beach, which is no easy feat for a girl with no feet, and sat beside her as she waited to make sure the girl would be ok. After a few minutes, the girl seemed to come around, and Meridia sighed, she knew the girl would be ok.
She started to slide back into the ocean, as the sun was beginning to make her scales dry and uncomfortable, but the girl spoke to her. Of course Meridia was far to curious to just leave, so she engaged in conversation, learning that the girls name was Cleo. Over next few years, she and Cleo became good friends, and when Meridia was 16, she stayed out of the water on the beach a little too long, but received a surprise.
She got legs! She'd always expected that her tail would dry out and she'd die, that's what she'd been told all her life. But come to find out, her tail transformed into legs. She and Cleo both stared at her for a moment, before Cleo rushed to get some clothes for her. Once she was properly clothed, Cleo insisted that she come to shore with her. She showed Meridia her house, and her favorite stores in the mall, and any number of other things. Meridia was fascinated.
This went on for the next year. Whenever she and Caspian were on the outs, she went to visit her friend on the mainland. She would just walk right up to her house now, and knock on the door. No problems. It was on a return trip when things turned ugly.
She had been daydreaming about a land-boy, that Cleo had introduced her to, and hadn't been paying attention to where she was going. Next thing she knew she was caught in a fishermen's net, and being pulled up out of the water. She panicked, and flailed, and tried to get out, but it was no use. She was stuck.
As you can probably guess, the fishermen that caught her were quite excited to have found a real mermaid, and pictures were taken. Meridia was on that boat for about an hour, carefully using her powers of water manipulation to make sure she kept water on her tail so that she wouldn't turn into a human. That was all she needed.
Suddenly, she felt the currents change beneath the boat, and waves became higher. Some of them nearly flipping the boat on it's side. She didn't need to be a genius to know that it was a mermaid, coming to her rescue. So when the boat nearly capsized she took her chance and slid off the side. Sure enough, her brother was there waiting for her. She swam to him and hugged him tight, glad that he had been there when she needed him.
Things went on like normal for the next week or two, but soon more boats started appearing. The elders went up to see what sort of boats they were, and came back with some horrible news. The fishermen had apparently sent their pictures of Meridia off to a group of scientists, and now the scientists were out scouring the ocean for more proof. The elders were of course absolutely furious with Meridia for having gotten caught in the first place - although they still don't know WHY she got caught, just that she did - and ordered that the entire pod scatter to avoid detection. So they left, all in groups of only two or three, and she and her brother were left to fend for themselves.
Her brother was of course very upset about the whole thing, and suggested that they go find a new pod. But Meridia shook her head, claiming that she knew of something better, no one would look for Merfolk on land of all places. Caspian doubted this was possible, but followed his sister to the beach. He worried the whole way, saying that this was dangerous, and if they got out of the water. She just chuckled and kept insisting that he trust her.
They got to the beach and after climbing out of the water, she used her mermaid magic to evaporate the water from their tails to make them dry faster. "What are you doing!?" was Caspian's cry, but she just rolled her eyes and ignored him. And then they were both sitting on the sand with legs. Meridia smiled and stood up instantly, giving her brother a few minutes to get used to the idea of having legs. While she waited, she walked over to the rocks where Cleo had long ago stuffed a waterproof bag with various clothing items, saying at the time "If you are going to be coming around, and I never know when, we can't very well have you walking around naked now can we? Best I leave you come clothes to use when you need them."
She put on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt that the two of them had bought on a shopping trip, and brought over a long cover up for Caspian to wear. Granted - it was meant for a girl so it looked a little odd on him, but he was covered and she expected that was the important part.
It took Caspian several hours - and a lot of complaining - to get comfortable enough to try standing and walking, and another thirty minutes after that to go more than three steps without falling. She laughed, explaining to him that she'd had the same problem at first.
This only served to make him angrier, saying that she had broken so many laws, and that they were both going to get in a lot of trouble for this. She only shrugged, saying that they were already in trouble, and that they were on their own now so what did it matter? He should be glad that she had, because she was possibly saving their lives.
Once he was up and walking semi confidently, she led him into town. "What are we gonna do?" He asked, "Just go up to some random land-person's house and knock on the door?" He was a fast learner, Caspian. She smirked, "Something like that."
It was about then that they reached Cleo's house. Cleo answered the door and hugged Meridia, not even noticing the tag-along, but then stood in shock. Meridia introduced Caspian and Cleo let them into the house, where Meridia explained what was going on.
Cleo invited them to stay with her, so they did. For almost a month. Her parents very understanding for whatever reason, and didn't even ask why two strangers were suddenly in their house, "Hey mom," Cleo had said, "These are my friends and they need a place to stay for a while."
Their parents had never been the type to turn away someone in need, so they made up the guest bedroom for Caspian while Meridia stayed in Cleo's room. The first couple of days were a little rocky, Caspian was still mad at Meridia, who was feeling guilty for putting Caspian in the situation. One day the three of them were sitting in the living room watching TV, when the show Merlin came on. Cleo was excited, saying she loved the show. Caspian and Meridia weren't convinced, but Caspian, for some reason, decided he loved the name Merlin, so he made that his human name. Later that evening, the show Lost came on, and Meridia heard the name Cassidy. She had laughed at Caspian liking a human name, but now she understood. She loved the name Cassidy, and decided that it would be her human named. Cleo laughed, "Well that's great but you guys still need a last name." After a few minutes of discussion, they decided on Tides, since they had come from the ocean.
After that everything was fine for the next couple weeks. Cleo and Meridia took Caspian shopping for clothes, and Caspian eventually stopped being angry, well, for the most part.
They learned a lot over this time. They learned that even the smallest drop of water would cause their tails to appear, so they had to be careful about that. They learned that they kept their clothes when they changed from human to mermaid and back, which they were both very excited about, since they wouldn't have to worry about showing up naked somewhere. Caspian questioned Meridia, asking why she didn't know that, and she just shrugged, saying she'd never tried it before. It was definitely a learning process.
But then the scientists showed up again. It seemed like everywhere they went, the scientists where there, watching them, as if they were waiting for an opportunity to snatch them up and test their theories. When one of them "accidentally" splashed Caspian while they were at a restaurant, and Caspian barely made it to the restroom before his tail appeared, Caspian made the executive decision as the oldest of the two that it was time to leave. So they said goodbye to Cleo - Meridia more upset about it than Caspian - and the two returned to the ocean.
They started swimming. And kept swimming. And continued swimming. Eventually they landed on the northwest coast of what they knew to be the United States. They climbed out of the water, and wandered around for a while. The U.S. was completely different from Australia. The climate was different, the people were different, the people dressed different.
They met a specialist there named Jacob who somehow knew them for what they were, and helped them. He told them about Collision Falls, VA...a town where the supernatural ran rampant, and that they would be safe there. So the two traveled there, aided by Jacob. They have just arrived and are still learning their way around, and they still live in fear of discovery, so they try to keep what they are a secret, even from other supernatural beings. They use the human names they decided on, and try to avoid detection.
