Mason Mavericks - Specialist

SPECIALIST
Type: Dream and Aura Abilities
Common Abilities:
Dream Walking – When using this ability, Mason is in complete and deep sleep. This tends to take over his own dreams and instead he views other people’s dreams. He doesn’t really have control over this one, he just happens to wander into whoever is asleep, dreaming, and near him. Whoever’s dream he is viewing will not sense him in this state and he cannot take action in the dreams. He views them as almost a ghost. This is one of his easier abilities and as such doesn’t require much power as he is sleeping when this happens. If the individual wakes up, nothing happens to them while he is just pushed to another dream or back into his own mind in a dreamless state. Once he wakes up, he'll remember what he has visited, but if not wanted to can just let it fade like any other human memory sometimes fades. He never really lets people know that he viewed their dreams as he feels this is a hugs invasion of privacy.
Aura Sensory – This ability Mason quite hates. He doesn’t like being able to see the faint colors surrounding a person at every second of the day. It gives him headaches that even medicine can’t seem to cure. He’s trying to work on getting it to turn on and off at his will, but so far has been only able to turn it off for a minute at most. Whenever he gets too tired of it he uses…other substances…to get it to turn off. Cigarettes and alcohol, he has found, seem to numb out all the colors. While he doesn’t smoke on school grounds, he will smoke. He claims it’s only for not being able to see the auras, but others think it for other reasons. If he has headphones in and had not smoked, or does not smell of smoke, and you can hear his music, he is using his other means to get the colors to stop. Loud music, directly in his ears confuse his brain and make it not focus on the colors that go off of emotion.
Special Ability:
Dream Control – This is one of Mason's favorite abilities. This state can only be used if the person whose dream he wants to invade has already fallen into a deep sleep and is dreaming. Mason, himself, is basically awake during this entire process and it can take a lot out of him. He is in that state of being aware of the sounds going on around you, but you are starting to go to sleep. Except, he can't fall asleep in this. His mind is just too aware. When Mason is controlling someone else’s dream, they are completely aware he is there. He can change whatever they were dreaming to his own. If they were dreaming of being in their own house, he can change the scene of the dream to a beautiful lake. The only backfire to this, is Mason had to have visited the place first before he can form someone’s dream to it. As far as clothes, Mason changes his clothes based on the person. For the person, Mason can even shift their clothes to his own want. But if he senses their discomfort at what he chooses, he gives them enough power to shift it. Even then, he usually only shifts the clothes of those he knows extremely well.

LIKES::
*Boys & Girls: Yes. Mason is bi. Though he isn't in the closet at school, he is in the closet at home. He fears his parents would be even more disappointed in him if they found out he liked both genders.
*Dreams: Mason truly thinks dreams are the key to the soul and that they can tell you a lot about someone. Especially about how they think as that is when your mind is at it's most vulnerable.
*Cigarettes and Alcohol: As stated above, these help numb his aura sensory power. Because of this, he hasn't taken a particular liking to Marlboro cigarettes and only the strongest of alcohol beverages.
*Oreos: He always likes to snack on these little cookies whenever he's hungry but it isn't time to eat. And yes, the crème is the better part.
*Driving: There's just something about driving his own car and the sense of freedom he gets from it.
DISLIKES::
*Soft and quiet music: It just doesn't help him at all. Sure, he wouldn't mind to write it, but he prefers loud music if he listens to it.
*Books: Why read a book when they basically make a movie of it in the end?
*His parents: Reasons that will be shown later on.
*Teachers: They are always trying to tell him what to do, when to do it. He just doesn't like being told what to do.
*Homework: It's just soooo boringgggg. Why do it when there are better ways to spend the time you have outside of school.
POSITIVE::
*Confident: Mason is very confident in almost everything he does, says, or thinks.
*Smart: Although he doesn't act like it at time, he is actually a smart kid. He just doesn't make himself focus.
*Active: He likes to go out and be active rather than sit inside all day. Though there are times when all he wants to do is curl up and watch movies.
*Cuddler: Yes. He is a cuddler. He doesn't let anyone know this though. The only people who really have an idea of this are the people he’s been with.
*Levelheaded: Mason is pretty hard to get ticked off. He likes to actually talk things out. He does know that sometimes things get physical, and he isn't scared of it, but he'd prefer not to have to knock someone out.
NEGATIVE::
*Focus: He has terrible focus when he's doing something he doesn't want or like to do.
*Possessive: What's his is his and he doesn't like to share.
*Anxiety: When it comes to him singing, he absolutely loses it when he finds out someone overheard him. He thinks he is absolutely shit at singing.
*Rebellious: Thanks to family matters, Mason has a bit of a rebellious streak as that was the only way his parents ever really paid attention to him.
*Disorganized: Not everything is messy, but his room is another matter. He got too used to a maid cleaning up after him and still hasn't really learned to pick everything up. Sometimes clothes and school supplies are strewn about his room.
FEARS::
*His parents finding out he's bi.
*Someone catching him singing, he doesn't think he has a good voice. (But he does)
*Getting kicked out of school again.

GENERAL::
Mason is a bit of a drifter. He tends to just blend in with the rest of the schools population. Well, if you count the population of kids who wear lip piercings and skinny jeans. He's a bit of an outcast, but he also has his group of friends. They don't know about him home life, as he doesn't tell anyone that. No one knows how rich the kid who tries to act punk really is. His "punk" image is just a cover for the rich kid underneath that wants to actually be seen by his parents. Around his friends he's talkative and will literally go on about certain things for hours on end, unless there’s a change of topic of course. Around strangers he puts up a front. He tries to act more badass than he really is. He doesn't really get aggressive unless it's really needed or he gets super annoyed. When people touch his things, make fun of his name, or mess with his friends he's liable to lash out with words or in physical ways.

Although Mason is a confident person in front of others, in reality he is full of anxiety. He gets stressed out over his parents finding out about him smoking, drinking, his sexuality, or about his peers finding out he's bloody rich and sings. This eats at him and sometimes he'll sit in his room staring at the wall with music full volume. It takes someone to quite literally shake him out of it and getting his mind focused on something else before he can calm down. He's only gone into a full-blown anxiety attack twice, and each time it was in front of a boyfriend and then a girlfriend. They just held him and helped him calm back down.

In relationships, Mason is usually the dominant one. He can become quite possessive of someone he's dating. Not to the extent of not allowing them to have friends, but sometimes he does get a little freaked out when he sees other people flirting with them. This makes him think that they might leave him for whoever is flirting with he or she and he gets a bite down. But even with that, he is a great boyfriend. He likes to go out on dates and especially likes when his partner can pick a place to go and aren't afraid to speak their mind. He is also a big cuddler. He loves nothing more than cuddling up on a couch or bed with whomever he is dating and just talking or watching a movie.

HISTORY::
Both Montgomery and Alice came from extremely rich families. In fact, their relationship was more of a forced marriage, especially on Alice's side. Alice was in love with a human boy, but went with her father’s wishes and married his business partner’s son. The two never really hit it off, and it still shows to this year. After a year of being married, their families were demanding offspring. And soon a son by the name Mason was born. Although the two parents didn't really love each other, they both loved their son.

But from the beginning everything was wrong. Alice thought they should raise him with love, and never discipline him. Montgomery on the other hand, always wanted to punish Mason, even for the littlest of things like leaving a drop of water on the floor in the bathroom from a shower. Thanks to these conflicting perspectives strife was shown through the house and in order to appease each other they had the maid, Meredith, raise their son. Meredith was a lovely person to raise Mason, as she could never carry kids on her own. But Mason didn't want the maids praise; he wanted his parents. Although he could never get their praise, he could get their attention by acting out. And soon those bad habits started.

It started in his first year of elementary when a kid started picking on his for the way he dressed and he ended up punching the kid in the face. His parents had been furious; they had actually spoken to him. After that day, he started getting in more and more trouble just so they would pay attention to him. And it worked, until they realized what was happening. They stopped reacting to it and eventually; tired that his parents weren't reacting to him anymore he stopped. Mason became sort of an outcast in school. He wouldn't want to have friends because then they would ask to come over. He didn't want anyone to see that his parents sucked.

When he finally went to the academy near his house, he seemed to fit in a bit more. He lived on campus there, and because of this was able to make friends since they wouldn't ask to go to his house. Everything went good until people started realizing just exactly who he was. Once they realized he was the son of the owner of 'Mavericks', a popular food restaurant in town, they started asking for money. He just wanted to disappear again. He couldn't handle this anymore, after a couple months of people he thought were close friends, always asking for things, he'd get annoyed and just walk off. It worked for the most part.

Until things started escalating and people started getting physical with Mason. At this time, Mason hadn't hit his growth spurt yet and was easy to pick on. After getting sent home for getting in fights, his parents only sent him off to another school. This continued for years, but the reasons he got expelled were always different. People picking on him, him starting fights, Mason ditching classes, Mason not doing any work, disrupting the classes, etc. Then all his powers came in at full force. They had been slowly trickling in; but with all of them now available and Mason finally hitting his growth spurt, people stopped picking on him. They started becoming fearful of him. He could actually fight back now. He could actually do something to their dreams. He started getting expelled for that as well.

As a last straw, his parents sent him to Collision Falls Academy. It was the only school for the supernatural that would accept him after all of his expulsions. Fearing his parents would do something drastic, like actually cut him off and send him to an orphanage, he straightened up and stopped acting out, somewhat. The first year at the academy, back in 9th grade, he didn't let anyone in. He kept to himself, did his work and actually acted like a good kid. It worked for a while. His parents were paying attention to him, even at the long distance. But then they got comfortable with his good deeds and started distancing themselves again.

This lead to him becoming a rebel once again. He got a lip piercing. His parents grew furious. He started dressing in skinny jeans. His parents grew more furious. He discovered he was bi on a night out when he got a bit too drunk to try and make the aura's fade. His parents never found out, as he knew that that would be the last straw. They had never spoken out against anyone that wasn't straight, but he could see it in their eyes and how they didn't approve. So he kept that secret. To this day, the only thing he really ever kept with him from home are his acoustic and electric guitars and clothes. He doesn't keep many physical belongings from home as he tries not to remember the terrible times he had there.

He's spent a few years at this academy now and he's fit in quite nicely. People here know he's bi, it's not a secret he hides here. He doesn't dream control those he knows will freak out. He's still trying to figure out how to turn off his aura sensory without other means. And he doesn't let anyone know that sometimes he views his or her dreams. He doesn't do his homework, but he never misses classes and pretty much Aces anything they do in class. He doesn't disrupt the classes enough to get in trouble. Mason's just existing at Collision Falls and to him, that's perfectly fine for now.
